Case Study # 18 : Third generation family succession

Background and Client Issues

We are third generation farmers and have just begun the journey of building our business up to a level that is considerate of achieving a succession plan.  As our parents achieved for us, we seek to provide a legacy for our growing children to continue the business into the next generation.  Our existing financier though did not entirely share our ambitions and restricted the capital we needed to initially continue our reinvestment back into the business to make it more efficient and profitable.  Knowing that this was going to be a material road block for bigger decisions in the medium term, we found it prudent to align ourselves with a financier that would provide us with the financial runway that we needed.  It is evident by default of our experience that agribusiness banking is an area that sits well outside of our expertise and hence we formally engaged Robinson Sewell Partners to perform this function for us.
